STREETWISE

Who is that svelte young man lounging outside 'The Rovers Return' on Coronation Street?

Street-wise
Can it be? Yes, it is!

This delightful relic from the past was excavated by my good friend and colleague, Malcolm Prince, with whom, back in 1998, I made the pilgrimage to Weatherfield as part of a radio series we were making for BBC World Service on the history of the soap-opera, entitled, To Be Continued...

Obviously, in the succeeding years, I have consumed rather too many of Betty's hotpots!

Interesting - although I have to admit I don't like soap operas much. I just can't seem to get into them...I just find them boring, and heartless.

This reminds me that your diet on that particular occasion was based on using a photo of us taken back at your flat as the 'before' picture for your inspiration. It was never cleared up which one of us you didn't want want to look like though !

Perhaps I can give you some consolation, with the years it is more difficult to lose weight. My weight now is more that I have in all my life, not very much but perhaps near of 7 Kgr more of my ideal weight.. a little problem with hiatal hernia and other things.

Is difficult to lose weight, but not impossible.

Keep eating the hotpots-Betty is 90!

No blog for over a week now, Brian! What's happening?

Anyway - to leave the subject of weight - the picture reminded me of one of the best cryptic crossword clues I have come across. The clue was 'Bar of soap' (3,6,6) and the answer is in the picture!

Eudora – Your encouragement is appreciated. Now, where did I put those biscuits...?

Jen – But in 'real life' apparently Betty Driver (who plays Betty) doesn't cook!

Rob – Great crossword clue! Sorry about the dearth of blogs (this, by the way was my 1290th!) but that is due to WORK (blog pay being so small as to be invisible!) and an irritating little distraction that goes by the acronym TMC!!
